The grocery reality in Island Park
Island Park has lodges, general stores, and convenience stores — it does not have a full grocery supermarket. For a full cabin stock-up (fresh produce, meat counter, bakery, dairy in volume), you have three options:
- Stop on the way up. Albertsons in Idaho Falls or Rexburg is the easy answer if you’re flying into IDA. Broulim’s in St. Anthony is the closer option (33 miles south of Island Park).
- Top up in Island Park. The Island Park General Store, Mack’s Sport Shop, Henry’s Lake Station, and the Subway/Sinclair convenience all carry basics — beer, soda, snacks, ice, frozen pizza, breakfast items. Limited fresh produce.
- Order online before arrival. Broulim’s offers delivery and pickup. Some cabin guests place an order ahead and pick up on the drive in.
Broulim's Supermarket — St. Anthony
The closest full-service supermarket to Island Park. About 33 miles south on US-20. Fresh produce, full meat counter, bakery, deli, full pharmacy. Best stop for a full grocery run on the way up.
Albertsons — Idaho Falls or Rexburg
The major-city option for stocking up on arrival. Multiple Albertsons locations in Idaho Falls (~85 miles south) and Rexburg (~50 miles south). Easiest if flying into Idaho Falls Regional Airport.
Subway / Sawtelle Convenience Store
The Subway location at 4141 Sawtelle Peak Road, attached to a Sinclair fuel station. Sandwiches, convenience-store basics, fuel, and ice. Mid-Island Park location convenient for trail food.
Mack's Sport Shop & Market
At the north end of Island Park. Limited grocery basics, fly-fishing supplies, fishing licenses, beer and wine. Best as a top-up stop, not a full grocery run.
Best strategy by trip type
Family week-long stay (4+ people, full meals)
Plan to stop at Broulim’s in St. Anthony or Albertsons in Rexburg/Idaho Falls on the drive in. Budget 30–45 minutes for the stop. Cabin pantries are typically empty — you bring what you need. Top-up at the General Store mid-trip for milk, ice, snacks.
Couple or small group, mostly eating out
Skip the big stop. Pick up breakfast/lunch basics (eggs, bread, fruit, coffee) at the Island Park General Store or Mack’s Sport Shop on arrival. Dinner out at Pond’s Lodge, TroutHunter, or West Yellowstone.
Multi-generation reunion (10+ people)
Pre-order from Broulim’s for pickup. Or split: one car runs to Idaho Falls Albertsons on day 1 for the big restock; the rest of the trip is top-ups at local stores. Many of the larger Grandview cabins have commercial-grade ranges and walk-in pantries that handle 10+ person meal prep.
Snowmobile / winter trip
Pack more than you think you need. Storms close US-20 occasionally. Extra days of food and water in the cabin are good insurance. Most local stores stay open through winter but with reduced hours.
What to actually stock in the cabin
Always worth bringing or buying
- Coffee and filters (cabin coffee makers vary)
- Cooking oil, salt, pepper, basic spices (cabin pantries are not stocked)
- Dish soap, hand soap (cleaning supplies vary by cabin)
- Ice (the general store sells block and bagged ice)
- Bear-safe trash bags if the cabin recommends it (the area has bear activity)
Best to bring from home
- Specialty groceries (allergen-friendly, specific dietary needs, ethnic ingredients)
- Wine and spirits (Idaho has state-controlled liquor stores; selection is limited locally)
- Prescriptions and medications
Will be available at the closest Subway/general store
- Bread, eggs, milk, butter
- Bacon, sausage, frozen meats
- Beer (Idaho beer selection improves north toward Montana)
- Snacks, chips, soda
- Frozen pizza and basics
