The Island Park dining scene

Island Park is small. The year-round resident population is under 200, and most restaurants are seasonal or have reduced winter hours. What that means in practice: the restaurant scene is concentrated along US-20 between Mack’s Inn at the north end and Pond’s Lodge at the south, with a small cluster in Last Chance (between Box Canyon and Harriman). Reservations matter in July and August.

Below: the established, locally-loved spots. Each links out to its current Google reviews so you can read the full picture before deciding. For a wider dining selection, drive 33 miles south to Ashton or 35 miles north to West Yellowstone — both have more variety than Island Park itself.

Pond's Lodge

Restaurant · Bar · Lodge · Island Park

The lodge restaurant with a 70+ year history. Full bar, full menu in the main kitchen, pizza kitchen open seven days. Daily 11 AM to 10 PM. Reservations recommended on weekends and during fishing season.

The Parlor at Mack's Inn

Pizzeria · Ice Cream · Coffee · Island Park

Wood-fired pizza, Farr's ice cream, coffee, and casual dishes in the Mack's Inn complex. Tuesday through Saturday, 11 AM to 9 PM. Reliable family stop, especially after a float on the river.

TroutHunter — Last Chance Bar & Grill

Restaurant · Fly Shop · Last Chance

On the Henry's Fork in Last Chance. Seasonal scratch-made food, full bar, river view. Daily 8 AM to 10 PM. Doubles as one of the canonical Henry's Fork fly shops.

Henry's Lake Station

Truck Stop · Cafe · Convenience · Island Park

Combination fuel station, café, and convenience store at the north end of Island Park. Open daily. The convenience store carries limited groceries — beer, basics, fishing tackle, snacks.

Island Park General Store

General Store · Fast Food Grill · Island Park

Open 7 days a week. Limited groceries, the local-famous $1 baked potato at the Fast and Good Grill, gifts, gas and diesel 24/7. The local catch-all stop.

Outside Island Park

Ashton (south, ~33 miles)

Ashton is the closest small town with broader dining. Diners, cafés, a couple of breakfast spots, and the closest Broulim’s Supermarket (the main grocery run for cabin visitors who want a full restock). The Trail Side restaurant downtown is a reliable lunch.

West Yellowstone (north, ~30 miles into Montana)

Much larger dining selection — pizza, burgers, BBQ, Mexican, steak, ice cream. Beartooth Grill on Canyon Street is a standard family lunch/dinner. Buffalo Bar serves casual dinner with a full bar. Wild West Pizza is reliable for groups. Sydney’s Mountain Bistro is the upscale option in town. Most West Yellowstone restaurants run extended hours from June through Labor Day.

Idaho Falls (~85 miles south)

If you’re willing to drive, Idaho Falls has the full spectrum — chains, regional standards, and a small independent scene. Mostly relevant for the drive in or out, not for during the trip.

A note on hours and seasons

Three things to know:

  1. Winter hours are different. Most Island Park restaurants reduce hours significantly from late October through early May. Pond’s Lodge and TroutHunter stay open year-round; The Parlor often closes for the deep winter. Call ahead.
  2. Reservations matter in peak season. Mid-June through Labor Day, dinner reservations are recommended at the sit-down spots. Casual food (pizza, grill) handles walk-ins.
  3. Tuesday is a soft day. Both Pond’s Lodge main kitchen and The Parlor are closed on different rotations — verify current schedule before planning a Tuesday dinner.
